What is the ‘Our place, Our story’ Project?
The Town of Port Hedland is creating a unifying brand identity for Port Hedland—a 'place brand' that represents what makes our community special. This brand will reflect the values, character, and identity of Port Hedland, helping to attract new residents, visitors, and businesses who share these values.
The place brand will be supported by targeted action plans to drive economic growth, tourism, and liveability improvements.
We are calling this project the ‘Our place, Our story’ project.
Over the next 18 months, the Town, in partnership with For The People, will deliver key milestones, including:
✅ Research & Engagement – gathering insights from residents, businesses, and visitors to ensure the brand truly reflects Port Hedland’s character and opportunities.
✅ Action Plans – developing essential strategies, including:
- Destination Management Plan – to grow tourism and the visitor economy.
- Investment Facilitation Plan – to attract businesses and economic opportunities.
- Resident Attraction & Retention Plan – to encourage long-term community growth.
✅ Place Brand Development – creating a compelling identity that highlights what locals love about Port Hedland and strengthens its reputation.
✅ Digital Presence – developing a modern website to promote Port Hedland as a destination to live, visit, and invest.
This project is community-driven, ensuring the brand and strategy reflect the rich culture, lifestyle, and future vision of Port Hedland.
Project update
Thank you to everyone who took part in the first phase of Our Place, Our Story — from attending workshops and events like Celebrate Hedland, to sharing your stories and ideas with us. Your input is helping to build an identity for Hedland that is as unique and authentic as Hedland itself.
We’re now using what we heard to draft three key action plans:
🔹 Destination Management Plan
🔹 Investment Facilitation Plan
🔹 Resident Attraction & Retention Plan
While in-person consultation has now wrapped up for this phase, we’ll continue to engage with the community through more informal conversations over the coming months. If you have any additional thoughts or feedback, we’d love to hear from you — please email us at 📧 ecodev@porthedland.wa.gov.au.
These draft plans will be shared for public feedback in September — so stay tuned for your next opportunity to get involved and have your say.
