RV Overflow Overview and Background:

The Town of Port Hedland operates a 72-hour transit RV overflow on McGregor Street, Port Hedland to support self-drive tourism. The facility is provided free of charge and is available on a first come, first served basis to self-sufficient caravans.

In 2024 the facility accommodated approximately 4,661 vehicles, supporting an estimated $3.3 million in direct visitor expenditure within the local economy.

Demand for the facility has increased significantly in recent years, with the site now regularly reaching capacity between June and September each year.

What is the RV Overflow Site Analysis and Feasibility Project?

The Town of Port Hedland has engaged a consultant to review and plan for the future of RV overflow accommodation in the region.

This includes:

  • Assessing the current McGregor Street facility,
  • Identifying and evaluating potential sites for expansion or relocation,
  • Preparing a feasibility study to determine the most effective, sustainable, and beneficial option to support growing RV tourism and provide maximum benefit to the local community.
