Spoilbank Marina Adventure Playground

The new Spoilbank Marina precinct will soon include an interactive, adventure playground for children and families.

To acknowledge our rich cultural heritage, the Town is proposing to give the playground a traditional Kariyarra name.

Kurlu Kurlu Wirri has been provided by Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation and means "Little People Play" in the Kariyarra language.

The Town is seeking feedback from the community on this name.

About the Playground

The playgound, which will become a key feature of the Spoilbank Marina precinct, has been made possible through a $4 million grant from Lotterywest.

Construction is expected to start in early July 2025 and be completed by December.

It is envisaged the new playground will become a social hub for visitors and families living in Port Hedland and neighbouring communities.

The playground will include five large shade structures as well as native trees and shrubs and wetpour rubber softfall surfaces in play areas.

Local Indigenous construction company Yurra will be delivering the project with sub-contractor Moduplay supplying the play equipment.

Recent census data for the Port Hedland local government area shows 17.6 per cent of the population is aged under 10 compared to the State average of 12.6 per cent.
